Before it was our City Hall, the buildings were known as the Hacienda School. The school was only for K-4th Grade. Older students completed grades 5-8 at Lowell Joint School on Valley Home.

One of the students in this 4th Grade class picture was young Carol Engelhardt.

Can you pick her out??

Carol remembers making tortillas out of ground popcorn and that parts of the surface blew out because some unground popcorn exploded sending the class running for cover. We were studying early Californian and Mexican cooking.

Did you know the City rented the City Hall building from Lowell Joint School District? Carol worked on purchasing City Hall property from the School District during her first term on the Council.
